RUBELLA 2008 - 2010 RIP
Rubella first appeared in October 2008, after which the girls went on to tour England and Wales, playing over sixty gigs in fifteen months until their last in January 2010. They headlined Oxjam, rocked Ladyfest, Club NME and NXNW festival and, having been handpicked to play the Levi’s Ones To Watch residency at Camden Barfly, raised havoc alongside The Chapman Family and Underground Railroad. Their first single, Napalm (2009), was picked up by John Kennedy of Xfm and also by Nemone on BBC Radio 6, who added Rubella to The Lunchbox and interviewed singer Anouska live on air. Rubella released their second and final single, double A-side No Evil/Plastic Implosive at the beginning of 2010, which received a warm reception, in particular from John Kennedy, who played both songs on Xfm Xposure. Circumstances forced Rubella to part ways at the end of January this year - the life of the band fated, it would seem, to be shortlived. But as they say the flame that burns brightest also burns for the shortest time....Anouska has been seen DJ-ing at Proud Galleries recently for No Fiction Club, and has been working on a synthpop project with legendary producer and electronic musician Martin LH from Oppenheimer Analysis. She's also getting ready to unveil her next band Exotica - more details to follow in the next few weeks with gigs already lined up. Some of you will also remember bassist Mike, who joined Rubella in January on tour around England. He's been a very busy boy lately having joined Basingstoke's finest Pussycat and the Dirty Johnsons, who have recently recorded an album and have been touring. Check them out here.
